I took photos for this reed quintet of past and present ASU students at Papago Park, a 15 minute drive from my house in Tempe. It's actually where the zoo is, too. Whenever I drive that way I have a hard time focusing because it's so damn beautiful!!! I'm so happy I finally got to shoot there, I've wanted to for a while and I'm super proud of the results. I feel like I've really been coming into my photographic style this year, if that's a thing. I've been extremely happy with all the work I've done in this area.

I updated my website a little while ago. Look! (and then tell your friends)

I'm fancy now and I say things like "I have a shoot at 5pm" and "let me check my schedule and get back to you" and "that's a wrap!", although that last one I only say in my head, in the interest of not sounding like a jerk ;)

Surprise Paris Party (+ Some)

This party is the reason I don't plan parties!!!! Kidding. But in all honesty it was so stressful.
Keeping a big, FUN secret from your best friend is SO DIFFICULT. All week Rachel Minto and I were planning this birthday surprise party for Rachel Messing, Paris themed like ya do, and AT THE LAST SECOND she started planning something for herself. We pulled our hair out for a few hours, but one well-placed lie and Facebook-event-edit later, we were good to go. We did the damn thing! She was surprised as hell, although there weren't nearly as many tears as I was hoping for ;)
Bad lighting means not a lot of good photos, but you can tell how happy she was! On Monday, Labor Day, her actual birthday, Messy had people over for grilling and cake. It was the most picturesque cake (it also tasted fantastic), so I took a lot of photos featuring the floral arrangement that Kristi very kindly created for us when I frantically texted her for help.
(Not to brag or anything, but she's been showing off this photo of her cake to people for weeks now.)
GO TEAM! I have never been more proud. As another gift, we gave Rachel a little photo album in which to store the Polaroids from her parties. She liked it so much that she brought it to school the next day :)
It was worth all the pain and suffering, heh. Love you, Rachy!

The Phoenix Zoo

I tried to write a post about my family. About my Grandma Lillian's birthday, which was Sept. 12, about how much I miss her, and my parents, and Rebecca. I couldn't do it, I just couldn't find the right words. Instead, here are pictures from when Dan and I went to the zoo. I hope it'll suffice (if nothing else, get a load of those giraffes).
It was really sweaty. We also decided that they need at LEAST two of every animal, and like 500 less birds. Why are there so many f-ing birds at the Phoenix Zoo?! And why didn't I take a selfie of us, we need to get it together.
Can you tell that I love giraffes? I guilted Dan into swinging by the giraffes on our way out, after we'd already spent a good 10 minutes staring at them earlier in our visit. He says they're too big to be my spirit animal, because I'm short, but I dunno I think it could work.
This lonely elephant is the reason the zoo needs more mammals. What kind of zoo only has one elephant? It's probably the saddest elephant, all alone in the desert heat...poor guy.

Regardless, my unpopular attitude is that I love zoos. I know they can be horrible, and yes frankly the Phoenix Zoo's habitats are lacking in space and foliage, but I just love seeing giraffes, okay!

(Worth noting: during this zoo trip, Rachel Messing threw our surprise party plans into chaos, and I was doing "damage control" from the zoo. Take that, surprise party!)

This zoo trip was the start of a super great weekend, now almost two weeks ago. I guess blogging has fallen to the wayside; my priorities lie elsewhere. That being said, I suppose I'll just share photos and word-nonsense whenever I feel like it. Hope that's cool with you (and if it's not, well that's fine too just don't read my junk).

Instagrammed Life

The first few weeks of school have been far busier than I expected them to be. Figuring out schedules, getting back into practicing, starting rehearsals, Messy's birthday. It's been busy, but lovely.
I've been commuting to North Scottsdale once a week to teach a private clarinet student. She's adorable, and the desert sunsets are good company on the drive home.
Wen gave me a dress that she got in China, so we matched in studio this past Monday. Then this weekend Dan and I went to the zoo, we threw Rachel a surprise Paris-themed birthday party, and then she had people over for food and cake on Labor Day (her actual birthday). Needless to say, my long weekend was perfect and I have a lot of photos to share because for once I ACTUALLY USED MY CAMERA.
I am tired and happy, as per usual. Tonight (Tuesday) Rachel and I go see Wicked at Gammage, tomorrow night Dan and I go see El Ten Eleven in downtown Phoenix, and this week I finally start teaching my ASU peeps!!! I am SO EXCITED (and so broke, but meehhhhh).

Happy four day week! Keep it real.
