Chicago // Part I

Not sure I ever fully explained...last semester, my reed quintet had a recital in which we played a piece by a composition student here at FSU. He won the National Young Artist Composition competition, or something like that, for MTNA (Music Teachers National Association). The piece had to be performed on the winners concert at the national convention in order for him to actually be the winner. And since our quintet had already been working on it, he asked us to go to Chicago to play. WIN!

The performance went very well and tooling around the city with some great friends was awesome. I took a lot of photos.
Day one: Walking up and down and up and down Michigan Avenue, stopping by Millennium Park to see Cloud Gate, aka The Bean.
^ in the evening, we went to see a local production of "Into the Woods" ^
Day two: More walking! Down to the Art Institute of Chicago, then up and down State St. to see "The Secret Garden" flower show at Macy's. This was my fav day. Art and flowers?? Does it get any better???
I hope in my next life I'm a floral designer, if that's a thing? The show in Macy's blew my mind, it was so magical!!

By day three of the trip we were a little tired and I took much less photos, but ya know, still a lot of photos. I'll be posting those soon!

Things, That Are Happening, Right Now (+ Happy Friday!)

Soooo, big news. Most of you have already heard, but I got into graduate school at Arizona State University! I love the clarinet teachers and I was offered an assistantship, teaching clarinet! Best case scenario, no? I'll be moving to Tempe some time over the summer. I think I was born to be in the desert and I really could not be more excited!!! But it's stressful thinking about moving, and although they gave me some very, very nice monetary won't be enough to live on. Among other things, my brain is just going in one million different directions regarding this HUGE move.

So even though I got this AMAZING news...I've been stressed. It's actually been a really difficult two weeks. My Crohn's Disease has been flaring up and not letting me sleep peacefully at night, leading to me being physically and emotionally exhausted during the days. Not to mention, with the traveling around Chicago and my upcoming jury and recital, I've just been struggling to keep food down and keep my playing up to snuff.

Aside from's been great. The Chicago trip was fantastic, so much fun. And after a few really productive rehearsals, my recital repertoire is pretty much solid. I'll be posting photos from Chicago (probably 2-3 posts if I'm being honest, because I'm kind of a photo-whore if that's even a thing) soon, and trying not to pull my hair out. Go team!

I didn't mean to not blog for so long, but frankly I haven't had much to blog about and I think sub-consciously I needed the break to focus on other things. But I'm home now and ready to go go go.

Adventures in Cooking // Crock-Pot Diaries

Chocolate. Lava. Cake.

What you'll need:
1 box of chocolate cake mix
1 1/4 cup milk
1/2 cup vegetable or canola oil
3 eggs
1 (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding
2 cups milk
1 (12 oz) bag of milk chocolate chips
Parchment paper

Follow these directions! But just so you now, I put my crock-pot on the "8 hrs low" setting, and it actually took about 8 hrs to bake. Just keep an eye on it, and it helps if you know how your crock-pot works.
I don't have any "after" photos because frankly, I couldn't wait to eat it.

Spring Break // At Home

Being home yields its fair share of stresses, but it's always relieving to get away from Tallahassee, in my opinion. The long-weekend-beginning-of-my-spring-break was full of baking and shopping with Mom, movies and TV, and baseball games (a spring tradition, since the Yankees came here in 1996).
Derek Jeter, my favorite player when I was younger, is retiring this year. That's the last of the team I grew up with, as he's the last of them to retire. I took a lot of photos of him batting.
This might be my last Spring Training for a while. If I move out of state next year, odds are I won't get to come home to Florida for spring break. I mean, you never know, but it's kind of sad to think that I won't get to be a part of this for the first time in...well, forever. Since '96 anyway. And let's face it, there's not much I can remember prior to that ;)

Well now I just feel old.

Anyway, it was great to be home but it's always nice to be back with my sweetheart. No matter what, I always seem to miss him when I'm away. Funny how that works ;) My goal is to cook a lot this week, while I have the time and energy! And I have my first rehearsal with my pianist on Friday, for my recital.

Happy break-ing, peeps.
