Thoughts on Applying to Graduate School

I'M DONE! I did it! For now, anyway.

I hadn't intended on taking a break from blogging while finishing and submitting my grad school applications, but I'm glad I did. It allowed me to put any extra energy I had (minimal, but it is what it is) into finishing these applications. I applied to five schools, four of which had pre-screening requirements. (For those of you who don't know, pre-screening is an audition to be invited to the live audition in the Spring.)

I have never been more relieved in my life. Except maybe when I applied to college the first time around? Maybe. The road does not end here for me; I'll have to do my live auditions in the spring, but that also means I get to travel to some pretty cool places. More on that once I find out where I'll be going ;)

They say you hear back about pre-screening in January, but I'm crossing my fingers it'll be sooner so I can book some tickets. I'm excited! Not nervous yet. Just excited. And hoping it'll stay that way.

Now I couldn't be more excited for Thanksgiving break. I'm going to Georgia with John and his family, out in the country. With this huuuge weight off of my shoulders, I'll actually be able to enjoy myself! I have about one billion photos to edit during these next few weeks (to my clients: I haven't forgotten you!), but the worst of the semester has passed. It should be smooth sailing from now on. And it feels great.

I'd like to make a Thanksgiving post, but I'm not sure we'll have Internet. So that may have to wait. I'm in no rush.

Happy Thanksgiving, friends!

- Sad feelings
- Scared feelings
- 18th. Century. Counterpoint. Ugh.

Happy Friday!

Busy week is almost over! Tomorrow night will be my last concert with the Florida State University Philharmonia, ever, because I'm not doing any ensembles next semester (sooo much free time--*happy dance*). But it's sad, because I love playing in UPO. It's been a wonderful experience this semester, as it was the past two semesters, and these will be some of my fondest memories about studying at FSU.

It will, however, certainly be nice to be able to focus on pre-screening recordings and finishing my applications next week, before Thanksgiving (is it seriously so soon?!)

Anyway, John and I have been watching a lot of 30 Rock in our down time (it's on Netflix). When we saw this clip we pretty much died of laughter, and then scrolled back to watch it again. So here you go! I hope you find it as funny as we do.

Have a great weekend.

These Days

The weather is Tallahassee has been on point for the past two weeks. The kind of weather that makes you want to do everything outside, you know? The kind of weather that just makes you happy, because it's so perfect and pleasant.

We had a morning this week when we woke up early, just naturally, and had enough time to make breakfast together and watch some 30 Rock. It was the best morning I've had in a long time. Maybe just because it was unplanned and unexpected. I'm hoping for many more like that in the future.

I might be absent from this page for the next week or so because I have approximately one BILLION performances coming up. Okay, that miiight be a slight exaggeration. But it starts with tomorrow night, when I'm going to Jacksonville with my reed quintet for a quick performance on Friday morning. Then our recital is Sunday, band is Wednesday, and Orchestra is Friday, with rehearsals everyday (sometimes twice a day). All whilst finishing grad school applications and preparing for pre-screening! Ahhhhhh being a music major...

Wish me luck :)

Art That I'm Loving

I've been coming across a lot of modern artists in my perusing of the Internet these days. I thought I'd share some of my favorite's of Max Wanger's prints that I've seen around. These are prints that I could stare at for hours; I'd love to hang some (or all...*cough cough*) in a future home.

A Weekend Surprise

So Rebecca told me earlier this week that she was thinking of coming to visit this weekend. But then she told me she had decided to stay in Gainesville. And I was like, okay, I'll see you next weekend when you come for my quintet recital. But then I show up at the College of Music on Saturday afternoon, AND SHE'S THERE. WITH JONATHAN. They had been in cahoots to surprise me.

It worked. So my weekend consisted of Rebecca, food, and shopping for jeans.

P.S. the weather today, was amazing.
